Sir William Lucas (Fitzwilliam Darcy, Darcy)

Sir William Charlotte Lucas is a man of gentle disposition who has achieved a respectable place in county society through his retirement from a successful mercantile business. He lives at Charlotte Lucas Lodge near Longbourn with his wife and several children, most notably his eldest daughter, Charlotte Lucas. Kindly and conscientious in his dealings, he takes pleasure in good-natured social gatherings and takes pains to be agreeable to all he meets. However, his desire to maintain and elevate his family's standing, combined with his limited intellectual resources, inclines him toward excessive deference to those of superior rank. He is fond of his neighbours and capable of genuine warmth, yet his judgment of character is not always keen, and he tends to accept the opinions of those he perceives as his superiors rather than forming independent views. Despite these limitations, he is honest and well-meaning in his intentions toward his family and friends.
