Monsieur Bertuccio

Monsieur Bertuccio is the steward and principal administrator of the Edmond Dantès / the Count of Monte Cristo of Edmond Dantès / the Count of Monte Cristo Edmond Dantès / the Count of Monte Cristo's household and far-flung properties. He is a man of considerable competence and discretion, capable of executing the count's complex and sometimes extraordinary orders with precision and speed. When instructed to prepare a house in a matter of hours, Bertuccio manages to transform it into a palace of comfort and elegance. When asked to locate and purchase an estate in Normandy meeting specific but flexible criteria, he undertakes the task with methodical efficiency. Bertuccio appears to possess prior knowledge of certain figures in the count's circle, and when he encounters Madame Danglars and Monsieur de Villefort at dinner, he experiences a profound shock that temporarily destabilizes him. This suggests that his connection to the count may extend further back than simple household management, and that he may be party to secrets concerning the count's true identity or purposes.
