Alice Mrs. Fairfax is revealed to be the full name of Mrs. Fairfax, who manages Thornfield Hall. After Jane Eyre's flight from Thornfield, it is Alice Mrs. Fairfax who responds to letters of inquiry regarding Edward Rochester, thus becoming the intermediary through which the solicitor and others attempt to discover the whereabouts and circumstances of the inhabitants of the house.
