Miss Temple

Miss Temple is the superintendent of Lowood School and a figure of genuine goodness within an institution marked by harshness and deprivation. Unlike the cold severity of Mr. Brocklehurst, Miss Temple treats the girls with respect and kindness, creating a small sanctuary of warmth and order within her domain. She recognizes Jane Eyre's intelligence and character beyond the false accusations leveled against her, and she offers Jane Eyre both practical encouragement—promising to teach her drawing and French—and emotional support through her evident approval and affection.
