Linton Heathcliff

Mr. Edgar Linton Mr. Heathcliff is the sickly, ailing son born to Mr. Heathcliff and Isabella Linton during his mother's exile in the south, following her flight from her husband's cruelty. Raised in isolation near London by his devoted mother Isabella Linton, Mr. Edgar Linton grows into a peevish, dependent boy with his mother's delicate constitution but lacking her sparkling spirit—his large, languid eyes retain none of her vivacity. He knows nothing of his father until summoned north as a boy to meet Mr. Heathcliff, an encounter that traumatizes and confuses him. Weak in body and will, Mr. Edgar Linton falls entirely under his father's dominion and becomes Mr. Heathcliff's instrument of revenge. Through manipulation and coercion, Mr. Heathcliff forces his sickly son into marriage with young Young Catherine Linton (Catherine Linton/Cathy), using the match to secure control of the Mr. Edgar Linton property. Mr. Edgar Linton's physical frailty and emotional dependence on his father make him incapable of protecting his bride from Mr. Heathcliff's abuse or of resisting his father's will. His death shortly after the marriage leaves young Catherine Earnshaw widowed, orphaned, and trapped at Wuthering Heights under Mr. Heathcliff's roof.
