Pride and Prejudice Characters — Grouped by Location (Spoiler-Free)
Pride and Prejudice characters by location — Longbourn, Netherfield, Rosings, and Pemberley. Elizabeth, Darcy, Bingley, and Wickham explained spoiler-free on CharacterViz.
Netflix's Pride and Prejudice limited series arrives in fall 2026 — and Jane Austen's novel moves through a handful of country estates and villages that can blur together on a first read. Longbourn, Netherfield, Rosings, and Pemberley each bring their own social rules and cast.
This guide groups the main Pride and Prejudice characters by where they belong, without spoiling what happens later. For chapter-by-chapter analysis, portraits, and relationship maps, see the full Pride and Prejudice character guide on CharacterViz.
Longbourn and the Bennet circle (Hertfordshire)
The Bennet family lives at Longbourn in Hertfordshire, near the market town of Meryton. Most of the sisters' daily life — walks, visits, and local gossip — unfolds in this neighborhood.
Elizabeth Bennet — The second Bennet daughter and the novel's sharpest wit; she knows every lane and drawing room in the county.
Jane Bennet — The eldest sister, gentle and beautiful, inclined to think well of neighbors and newcomers alike.
Mr. Bennet — The sardonic master of Longbourn, happiest in his library when his wife is not planning another outing.
Mrs. Bennet — Anxious about marrying off her daughters before the estate passes to a distant cousin; she treats every new bachelor as a strategic opportunity.
Lydia, Kitty, and Mary Bennet — The younger sisters add noise, vanity, and awkward piano practice to a household where reputation is fragile.
Charlotte Lucas — Elizabeth's practical friend from the nearby Lucas estate; she understands the marriage market without illusions.

Meryton — the militia and local society
Meryton is where the Bennet sisters shop, call on friends, and meet officers stationed nearby. It is the social hub that connects Longbourn to wider Hertfordshire.
George Wickham — A charming militia officer who quickly wins sympathy in Meryton — especially Elizabeth's — with a story that pits him against Mr. Darcy.
Mr. Denny and other officers appear at assemblies and walks; they give Lydia and Kitty an excuse to flirt and roam.

Netherfield — the Bingley household
When wealthy Charles Bingley rents Netherfield Park, he imports a new social set to Hertfordshire: his unmarried sister, his proud friend from Derbyshire, and the scrutiny that follows any large fortune.
Charles Bingley — Amiable, open, and immediately taken with Jane Bennet; he represents easy good nature rather than old-family arrogance.
Caroline Bingley — Charles's sister, stylish and sharp-tongued, eager to associate with rank and dismiss anyone she considers beneath her.
Fitzwilliam Darcy — Bingley's wealthy friend, master of Pemberley; his first impressions at the Meryton assembly make him the talk of the neighborhood.
Mrs. Hurst — Caroline's married sister, usually aligned with Caroline's opinions and Netherfield entertainments.

Hunsford and Rosings (Kent)
When Charlotte Lucas accepts Mr. Collins, Elizabeth visits her at the parsonage near Rosings Park — Lady Catherine de Bourgh's imposing seat in Kent. The cast here is smaller but socially formidable.
Mr. Collins — The Bennet cousin who will inherit Longbourn; obsequious toward Lady Catherine and absurdly proud of his "patroness."
Lady Catherine de Bourgh — Darcy's aunt and Rosings's autocrat; she expects deference from everyone within miles of her estate.
Colonel Fitzwilliam — Darcy's cousin, a good-humored younger son who enlivens visits at Rosings.

Pemberley and Derbyshire (and London connections)
Pemberley in Derbyshire is Mr. Darcy's ancestral home — a world away from Hertfordshire's assemblies. The Gardiners, Elizabeth's sensible uncle and aunt, also link the story to London and the wider map of Regency England.
Georgiana Darcy — Fitzwilliam Darcy's younger sister, shy and accomplished, closely watched by her brother after a painful episode in her youth.
Mr. Gardiner and Mrs. Gardiner — Trade-connected but refined; they offer Elizabeth refuge and perspective when family scandal threatens to spill beyond Longbourn.
