Orlick

Orlick is a heavy, dark-browed laborer whose brooding resentment and violent temperament make him a recurring threat in Pip (Philip Pirrip)'s world. Initially encountered as the journeyman at Joe Gargery's forge, he is quickly revealed as a man of brutal impulses and malignant grudges. His dislike of Pip (Philip Pirrip) is immediate and visceral, and when his employment at the forge becomes untenable, he resurfaces as the gatekeeper at Miss Havisham's mansion—a post that suits his surly, watchful nature. Unlike other characters who evolve or find redemption, Orlick remains fixed in his antagonism, his slow gaze and slouching frame a physical manifestation of barely contained hostility. He dwells in the periphery of events, observing, resenting, and embodying the darker undercurrents of violence that threaten the narrative's fragile social order. His very name becomes almost synonymous with menace.
